What are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash Extensions are made of 100% real mink or synthetic eyelashes that look like a natural eyelash. They are thicker at the base and taper to a fine point which adds thickness and length to your own lashes. They are individually applied to your natural lashes using a specially formulated bonding material. Applying Eyelash Extensions is a very careful and intense service that requires skill and precision and should only be applied by an experienced lash stylist that is trained and certified in the process. Self-application, or application by someone who has not received the proper training, could provide an unnatural result or lead to lash damage or eye injury.
What do Eyelash Extensions look like and how do they feel?
There are different lengths, thicknesses and curls to choose from. There are also a variety of colors that can provide highlighting effects. Application is customized to meet the needs and preference of the client but is also determined by the health and thickness of the client's natural lashes. With proper application, eyelash extensions feel and look so natural it is extremely hard to tell, even up close, that they are not your own. You can wake up every morning with fabulous lashes.
Common Questions About Wearing Eyelash Extensions:
Q. Are eyelash extensions safe? Can they damage my natural lashes?
A. When applied by a trained lash professional, they cause no damage. They are applied to the individual eyelash not the skin and are safe and painless. The bonding adhesive used is safe for the eyes.
Q. How do I know if I can wear eyelash extensions?
A. Almost anyone can enjoy wearing eyelash extensions; however, there are certain conditions where eyelash extensions are not suitable for you.
- Rubbing your eyes frequently. Seasonal allergies can cause excessive watering, eye irritations, and excessive eye rubbing or if you suffer
from the habit of rubbing your eyes.
- Sensitive skin around the eyes. Sometimes the under-eye pad or adhesive can cause an allergic reaction. The area around the eyes are very easily irritated by skincare products or cosmetics. Consult with your lash professional before your procedure.
-Medical Illnesses. Any medical condition where one of the side effects is the loss of hair (chemotherapy, alopecia, etc..). A common cold, sinus infection, or flu can cause irritation and/or eye secretion which can cause the adhesive not to bond correctly which will cause your new eyelash extension to fall off too soon. However, infection control is the #1 priority. Please consult with your lash professional to
reschedule your appointment if you are sick with a medical condition that is contagious.
Q. Will eyelash extension pull out my own lashes?
A. No, if they are removed by a trained lash professional. The eye area is a very delicate area. Rubbing, pulling, or tugging is not only harsh to the skin around the eye but can cause the eyelash to fall out prematurely.
Q. How will sleep affect my lashes?
A. If you sleep on your stomach, or cover your eyes with a pillow, mask, or blanket, it will decrease the life of your eyelash extensions. If you sleep on your side, you may notice the loss of your eyelash extension more on the side you are sleeping on. Using a satin pillow case may be helpful.
Q. Can my extensions be removed?
A. Yes. If you find you would like them removed, please communicate your concerns to your lash professional. The removal is done with a special eyelash extension adhesive remover and painless. It is usually done in about 30 minutes. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE YOUR EYELASH EXTENSIONS YOURSELF. YOU MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR NATURAL EYELASHES.
Q. What are refills? How often do I need them?
A. Your natural eyelashes shed naturally. You will also shed the lash extension bonded to your natural eyelash. To maintain your lash extensions will require touch-ups/refills to replace them. This process is adding new lash extensions to your new mature eyelashes. It is recommended to refill every 2 weeks to maintain full beautiful eyelashes.
Q. How long will my lash extensions last?
A. Our hair type and growth cycle is predetermined by our genes, as well as other factors such as overall health. In general, our natural lashes grow in cycles of approximately 10 to 12 weeks and undergo three growth phases. Each hair growth cycle is unique to everyone, and each individual eyelash enters the different phases at different times. When natural lashes mature and fall out, new lashes have already been growing. Lash extensions are applied to those lashes that are in the middle phase of the growing cycle. These lashes can support the length and weight of the extension and will extend the amount of time they will last without affecting the health of new lashes. As your natural lash sheds, the lash extension will be shed along with it.
With proper care, your lash extensions will last as long as your own lash, but can be maintained indefinitely with refills. To keep your lash extensions lush and full, we recommend getting a touch up (refill), every 2 weeks.
